The EU Deforestation Regulation focuses on whether covered commodities and relevant products come from deforestation-free supply chains, supported by information collection, risk assessment and risk mitigation records. For wood products, paper packaging, natural-rubber products and components that may contain natural rubber, preparation should begin with SKU-level traceability.
Identify whether the product touches EUDR scope
EUDR covers cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya, wood and relevant derived products. Exporters and marketplace sellers should pay attention not only to finished-product categories, but also to materials such as wood, pulp, paper packaging, natural rubber, wooden furniture, wooden decoration parts, rubber seals and rubber footwear components.
What to include in the traceability table

Certificates are supporting evidence, not the whole answer
FSC, PEFC or supplier declarations may support the evidence chain, but they should not replace the company’s own information collection, risk assessment and record retention. Keep certificates, contracts, batch files, supplier declarations and origin evidence in one controlled index.
Practical first step
Select ten EU-facing SKUs with higher sales or shipment risk. Check whether they include covered commodities, complete the material list, request supplier origin evidence, record the risk decision and confirm the file format expected by the customer or importer.
