The label and the listing are read together
A packaging label may be printed on a box, but the customer often reads it together with the product title, images, bullet points, A+ content and website page. If the box says one narrow material fact and the listing turns it into a broad environmental benefit, the company has created a wider claim than the packaging file can support.
PPWR preparation therefore needs a visible-claim review, not only a packaging-material review. The team should collect screenshots of every customer-facing statement and connect each statement to a packaging layer, supplier document and version.
Three types of wording need extra care
First, avoid writing 'PPWR-compliant packaging' unless the company has a clear basis for that legal conclusion. A safer internal statement is that the company is preparing or reviewing packaging information against PPWR requirements. Second, avoid broad terms such as sustainable, eco-friendly or green unless the evidence boundary is precise. Third, avoid turning a package component into a product-level claim.
For example, if a paper outer box replaced a plastic blister, the claim may need to say exactly that. If only the inner tray changed, the statement should not suggest that the whole packaging system has changed. If recycling depends on local rules, the wording should not imply that every customer can recycle it in the same way.
A practical review sequence before publication
Put the packaging artwork, supplier files, product-page screenshot and marketplace image text on one review sheet. Ask four questions: which packaging component does the statement describe; which document supports it; does it apply to every SKU, colour, bundle and channel; and could a customer read it as a legal compliance or environmental-performance conclusion?
