What Is EPEAT? Product Category and Region Come Before the Claim

EPEAT is category-specific

EPEAT is a recognized environmental labeling program for certain electronics categories. It should not be treated as a label that any electronic product can use. Before writing a page claim, the seller should confirm that the product category, model, rating tier and region are relevant.

A product that looks similar to a listed category may still fall outside the applicable scope. This is why the review should start with the registry and model identity rather than with marketing language.

Example: display or computer accessory

If a seller handles monitors, computers, imaging equipment or related electronics, each model should be checked against the applicable registry information. Accessories, bundles and private-label variations may need separate evaluation.

The claim should say what the evidence supports. A tier, category or region should not be omitted if it is important to the meaning of the claim.
