Responsible wool claims start upstream

The Responsible Wool Standard is used when sellers want to support responsible wool sourcing claims. The evidence discussion starts with source and chain-of-custody, not only with a finished product photo. A sweater, blanket or scarf may contain wool, but the seller still needs to show how the wool claim is connected to certified supply-chain records.

A broad statement about responsible wool can be misleading if the product is a blend, if only one component is covered or if the supply route changed.

Example: wool-blend sweater

For a wool-blend sweater, the team should check fiber composition, supplier scope, transaction records, finished-product category, batch and color variation. If a trim or mixed fiber is not covered, the claim should be limited to the wool input or the covered part of the product.

The product page should not imply animal-welfare, farm, chain-of-custody and finished-product coverage unless those points are all supported by the evidence file.

Practical file structure

A clear file includes certificate holder, scope, supplier order, transaction link, product description, SKU mapping, labeling and listing wording. Greenark Certification can help review whether the statement is specific enough and whether additional supplier documents are needed.
