For FSC paper, paper packaging and wood products, a certificate or transaction document cannot be treated as a universal product claim. Product scope, certificate holder, chain of custody, transaction records, trademark permission and proposed wording should be reconciled as one evidence chain. Based on FSC public chain-of-custody and trademark materials, this article offers a CPF-document preparation framework. It does not promise certification, CPF display, platform eligibility or sales results.
1. Keep four scopes separate
Separate: (1) product scope, including the exact paper, packaging component, wood item, model or batch; (2) organisational scope, including certificate holder, manufacturer, trader or brand; (3) supply-chain scope, including processing, transfer and sale records; and (4) claim scope, meaning the wording used in the listing, packaging, image or customer file. A CoC certificate covers its stated organisation and scope; it does not automatically cover every SKU. A transaction document also needs its product and transaction context.
2. Build the paper-and-wood evidence chain
Check the relevant certificate status, CoC scope, product category and certificate code, then reconcile purchase orders, invoices, delivery or goods-in records, specifications and batch information. Seller, buyer, product description, quantity, date and FSC claim on the transaction documents should correspond to the actual transaction. Do not add a composition percentage, model or batch that the files do not support.
FSC 100%, FSC Mix and FSC Recycled are different material-claim paths. Their wording, labels and licence-code requirements must be checked against the current FSC standard, the certificate scope and the applicable certification-body approval. Holding an FSC CoC certificate does not mean every product is FSC 100%, and FSC should not be treated as interchangeable with PEFC or another forestry scheme.
3. Trademark and page wording
Before using the FSC name, marks or promotional claims, confirm the relevant trademark licence, certificate scope and certification-body approval process. FSC public materials require the trademark licence code to accompany trademark use and require claims not to mislead the public. The FSC-STD-50-001 V3-0 requirements, effective in 2026 with a transition arrangement, should be checked as part of the current review. Keep the final artwork, permission or approval record and the associated product or material scope together.
Do not expand “FSC material” into a claim about the entire product, every supplier or every batch. Do not describe a voluntary forestry certification as a statutory safety, environmental or customs conclusion. Remove unsupported percentages, pass rates, penalties, delisting, recall, fixed processing times and “will pass” language.
4. Outsourced processing and multi-party supply chains
If printing, coating, die-cutting, assembly or another step is performed by an outside party, first confirm whether the step is within the certificate scope and what the current FSC rules require for outsourced processing, segregation, records and transaction documents. A generic letter of assurance should not replace the applicable requirements. The certificate holder, outsourcee, product batch and records should correspond, with the usable evidence confirmed under the current scheme rules or by the certification body.
5. Manual pre-publication review
□ SKU or packaging component matches the certified product scope; □ certificate holder and transaction parties align; □ certificate status and code are verifiable; □ description, quantity, batch and transaction files reconcile; □ page wording stays within the FSC claim category and trademark permission; □ outsourced and multi-site steps have supporting records; □ final artwork and listing copy contain no invented logo, certificate number, percentage or outcome signal.
GreenArk (Shenzhen) Certification Co., Ltd. may support document organisation, claim-to-evidence mapping and gap identification, but it does not replace a certification body, Amazon or a regulator’s decision. Programs and documents can change; recheck the current FSC materials and the specific certificate before use.
