The EU WEEE Directive addresses the collection, treatment, recycling and producer responsibility of waste electrical and electronic equipment. For cross-border electronics sellers, the common operational issue is not the name of the directive. It is whether brand, equipment type, sales country, authorised representative, registration number and platform field match each other.

Separate The Obligation By Sales Country

WEEE is an EU-level directive, but registration, reporting and enforcement are implemented by Member States. A seller should not assume that one country's registration number covers the whole EU. Germany, France, Italy, Spain and other target markets should each be reviewed for local producer responsibility, authorised-representative rules, equipment category, brand and filing route.

For Amazon Germany, Focus On The WEEE-Reg.-Nr.

Amazon Seller Central guidance for Germany tells sellers to submit the correct WEEE-Reg.-Nr. on the compliance page after the number is visible on the Stiftung ear portal. The check is not only whether a number exists. It is whether the number matches the correct brand, equipment type and selling entity, whether it is visible in the official system, and whether the Seller Central submission matches the registration record.

Build A Four-Column Working Table

Use one column for ASIN, SKU, brand, equipment type and target country; one for producer or authorised-representative details; one for WEEE-Reg.-Nr. or the local equivalent, official visibility and submission date; and one for platform screenshots, change records, annual-reporting tasks and responsible owner. Multiple brands, bundled products, powered accessories and LED or battery modules should be reviewed separately.

Common Mistakes

Do not treat CE, RoHS or a test report as a substitute for WEEE registration. They solve different compliance questions. Do not borrow a number that does not match the brand or equipment type. Do not submit a number once and then lose the official portal record, authorised-representative agreement, platform screenshot and later reporting responsibility.
