EU ESPR Digital Product Passport: What Cross-Border Sellers Should Prepare

Checked on July 23, 2026. Source basis: the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the European Commission 2025-2030 working-plan materials. The EU ESPR framework has moved Digital Product Passports from a policy concept into a staged product-data requirement. For marketplace sellers, the practical task is to build a traceable file that connects each SKU with materials, suppliers, sustainability claims, repair information and future product-group rules.

1. Start With the Product Group

The ESPR will be implemented through product-group measures. Sellers should first identify whether their EU-bound products fall into priority areas such as textiles, furniture, tyres, steel, aluminium, or other groups named in the working plan and later delegated acts.

2. Treat DPP as a Data Chain

  • Map SKUs, model boundaries, materials and supplier records.
  • Keep repairability, durability, recycled-content and recyclability evidence together.
  • Align product-page sustainability claims with the documents that can support them.
  • Retain screenshots, supplier confirmations, submission records and version-change notes.

3. Marketplace Preparation

Marketplaces may request compliance data before final regulatory deadlines. Sellers should prepare a consistent file across listing copy, product labels, technical records and supplier documents, instead of relying on a single QR code or a late-stage form.
