UKCA Countdown: Compliance Checklist for UK Market Access
The UK market access deadline is approaching. From 1 January 2027, CE marking will no longer be accepted for many products placed on the Great Britain market. Exporters and marketplace sellers should review UKCA scope, technical files, declarations and labelling evidence before new stock is shipped.
1. What the UKCA mark means
UKCA stands for UK Conformity Assessed. It is the product compliance marking used for Great Britain after Brexit. It shows that a product has been assessed against the applicable UK regulations for that category.
Northern Ireland follows different marking rules. Sellers should separate Great Britain and Northern Ireland routes when preparing labels and compliance declarations.
2. Timeline and market placement
- 31 December 2026: the current CE recognition period for affected Great Britain routes is scheduled to end.
- 1 January 2027: affected products newly placed on the Great Britain market should carry the required UKCA evidence and marking.
- Marketplace files: platforms may request test reports, technical documentation and declarations before the regulatory deadline.
The key operational question is when the product is first placed on the market. Inventory, import dates, platform listing status and dispatch records should be kept consistent.
3. Product categories to review first
Common cross-border categories include electrical and electronic products, toys, machinery, personal protective equipment, construction products, pressure equipment and radio equipment. One SKU may fall under more than one set of UK rules.

4. Compliance files and labelling
A practical UKCA file normally includes product descriptions, drawings, test reports, risk assessment, applicable standards, user instructions, label artwork and the UK Declaration of Conformity. Where an approved body is required, the body information must also be controlled.
Labels should be checked on the product, packaging and instructions. Sellers should verify minimum size, visibility, durability and whether the marking can be placed on accompanying documents under the applicable regulation.
5. Action list for exporters
- Map all UK-bound SKUs against the UKCA scope.
- Check whether existing CE reports can support the UK route or need supplementary work.
- Prepare English declarations, technical files, label artwork and platform upload files.
- Align suppliers, factories, forwarders and marketplace operators on the same deadline.
