Who this is for: Brand, procurement and operations teams selling through UK or EU Amazon stores and comparing merchant fulfilment with Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA).
Bottom line: “Amazon Europe fees” are not one fixed table that applies to every product. Amazon’s pricing guidance says costs depend on the selling plan, product category, fulfilment method and selected services. Review referral, fulfilment, storage and additional charges by store, ASIN, packaged dimensions, weight, inventory location and account-level rates. This guide provides an ASIN-level register and margin framework; it does not guarantee a fee reduction or profit and does not replace Amazon’s current rate cards, Fee Preview or seller statements.
1. Fix the modelling scope first
For each ASIN, record the selling store, currency, selling plan, product category, price and promotion. Then record the fulfilment route—FBM, local FBA, EFN or Pan-European FBA where relevant—the packaged length, width, height and weight, the inventory country, and whether cross-border delivery, returns or dangerous-goods handling may apply. Without these boundaries, applying a per-unit charge from one store or size band to another market is not a defensible estimate.
Write down the revenue and tax basis as well: whether the selling price includes VAT, how discounts and refunds are treated, whether product cost includes packaging and international freight, and who bears duties or import charges. Tax treatment depends on the parties and transaction model; this article requires the assumption to be documented rather than making a tax determination.
2. Split the cost stack into reviewable modules
1. Selling plan and referral fees
Selling-plan charges and per-item referral fees are separate items. Amazon’s public pricing guidance shows that referral fees depend on the product category and store rules; some categories may also use price tiers or minimum fees. Do not replace the current store-specific category schedule with a single “Europe-wide referral rate”. Keep the store, category, price band and rate-card version with the calculation.
2. FBA fulfilment and storage
FBA fulfilment charges need to be checked against product type, packaged dimensions and shipping weight. Storage is calculated from occupied space and the applicable billing month. A remeasurement that moves a product into another size or weight band can materially change the per-unit cost. Treating un-packaged measurements or a supplier quotation as the billed dimensions can overstate margin.
3. Inventory, returns and optional services
Depending on the fulfilment route and account settings, check advertising, customer-return processing, removal or disposal, long-term inventory, low-inventory-level, dangerous-goods and other optional-service charges. These items do not apply identically to every ASIN, so use order reports, fee previews, inventory reports and actual statements rather than category assumptions.
4. Keep dated evidence for fee changes
Amazon’s 2026 Europe pricing page states that a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to FBA shipping fees in specified stores from 17 April 2026, and says that Revenue Calculator, Profit Analytics and Fee and Economics Preview reflect the specific impact. Treat that date and percentage as a dated check against the stores, service scope and current account version named by Amazon; do not infer the same profit impact for every ASIN. Save the rate-card publication date and confirm applicability in Seller Central.
3. Build an ASIN-level margin model
Use one row for one ASIN, one store and one fulfilment route. Keep at least the following fields:
| Module | Evidence or data to record | Review focus |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | Store, ASIN, price, discount, refunds and revenue basis | Whether VAT and different-country orders are mixed |
| Amazon charges | Selling plan, referral, fulfilment, storage and applicable surcharges | Rate-card version, size/weight band and account charges |
| Operating cost | Product, packaging, freight, duties/import charges, advertising and returns | One-off costs separated from per-unit costs |
| Result and assumptions | Base, conservative and stress scenarios with the data date | Examples not presented as actual fees or guaranteed profit |
A useful structure is: estimated contribution margin = net order revenue − selling-plan and referral charges − fulfilment and storage − advertising and other services − product, packaging and freight − returns and compliance allocation. The formula only defines the accounting boundary. Each deduction should trace to a rate card, fee preview, statement, order report or internal cost record; do not replace evidence with an unexplained average percentage.
4. Preserve a fee-data evidence trail
- Download the official fee schedule for the relevant store and record its date, language, currency and territory.
- Use Fee Preview, Revenue Calculator or Profit Analytics for the same ASIN, entering packaged dimensions, weight, price and fulfilment route, and retain the result or report reference.
- Compare the preview with order reports, settlement statements or fee details. If they differ, record the country, order type, inventory location and fee item.
- When a rate or product attribute changes, retain both versions and note the effective date instead of overwriting the historical model.
Third-party calculators, supplier quotations and internal averages may support an initial screen, but they do not replace the current store rate card or account statement. For cross-store sales, inventory moved across countries, returns or special-size products, keep an explicit “to confirm” field in the register.
5. Four common modelling errors
Error 1: Treating a fee reduction as an automatic profit increase
A change for one category, price band or fulfilment service does not mean every product changes by the same percentage. Map the effective date, store, ASIN conditions and fee item before changing a margin forecast.
Error 2: Looking only at referral fees
For large, slow-moving or frequently returned products, storage, fulfilment and reverse logistics may matter more than a referral-fee change. Complete the packaged-dimension and inventory-turn fields before comparing routes.
Error 3: Treating an illustrative example as a quotation
Examples on official pages explain a calculation method; they are not the billed charges for a particular ASIN. Use the current store schedule, fee preview and order reports for a decision.
Error 4: Recording numbers without a source or date
A number without its source, version and modelling date cannot explain a variance or support a later review. Every material input should point to a page, report or statement.
6. Pre-publication and repricing checklist
- The store, currency, selling plan, category and ASIN are fixed.
- The price, discounts, VAT and refund basis are stated.
- Packaged dimensions, weight, inventory location and fulfilment route are recorded.
- Current referral, fulfilment, storage and applicable service charges trace to an official schedule or account report.
- Base and stress assumptions are separated; no estimate is written as a profit guarantee.
- Sources, download dates, reports and statements are archived without overwriting historical versions.
Scope note: The applicable charges for an Amazon store, category, fulfilment route and account are determined by Amazon’s current rules, rate cards, fee previews and actual statements. This article does not promise lower fees, profit, ranking, traffic or any business outcome. Recheck the relevant official page and Seller Central data before publishing a price or changing a fulfilment plan.
