In the US & Canada, any PDP that writes “Non-GMO / GMO-Free / no genetically modified” most often gets suspended because there is no third-party admissible evidence. Non-GMO Project Verified (NGP, butterfly logo) is the most widely accepted third-party verification that clears platform risk control in North America.

🔎 One-liner: any “non-GMO” claim must be backed by NGP verification. A single in-house PCR test or a “supplier letter” does NOT count as admissible evidence for Amazon Grocery / Whole Foods / Sprouts.

1. Four NGP-heavy categories

2. Three core NGP rules

1. Segregation: same factory running both GMO and Non-GMO streams must have physical separation + batch changeover SOP + dedicated vessels.
2. Threshold (not absolute zero): adventitious presence (unintentional cross-contamination) ≤0.9% (aligned with EU GMO labelling threshold — below is OK).
3. Traceability: every raw-material batch must have an NGP certificate ID OR supplier Non-GMO declaration + that batch's quantitative qPCR negative result.

3. The big-8 high-risk GMO inputs (any hit = proof is mandatory)

Soybean (including lecithin/protein/oil), Corn (starch/maltodextrin/corn oil/HFCS), Sugar beet (not to be confused with cane sugar), Canola / rapeseed, Cottonseed / cottonseed meal, Papaya (Hawaii / Central America GM lines), Summer squash / zucchini, Alfalfa (common in pet food). Any of above 8 must have Non-GMO source proof; others a supplier declaration is usually sufficient.

4. Four red lines for PDP claim wording

⚠️ No NGP, writing "GMO-Free / 100% Non-GMO" → Amazon false-advertising suspension; competitor complaints near-100% succeed.
⚠️ NGP expired, butterfly mark still displayed → violates NGP trademark agreement.
⚠️ Single finished-good PCR test, no trace system → NGP is a system verification, not a one-off test report.
⚠️ Claiming "USDA Organic = Non-GMO" — Organic prohibits intentional GMO use but Organic ≠ NGP verification; they are not interchangeable.

1️⃣ Cross formulations for big-8 hits; demand Non-GMO source proof today.
2️⃣ Every SKU declaring Non-GMO / GMO-Free must have an active NGP verification ID on PDP.
3️⃣ Same line runs GMO + Non-GMO batches: written changeover + cleaning SOPs + records must exist.
