The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published recall 2610-0026 on 7 October 2026 for two corded Flymo grass trimmers. Its page says “Risk level: Not provided”. That field should be read literally: the page does not assign a risk level. It does not cancel the recall, indicate that use may continue, or describe the products as low risk. The same notice identifies an injury hazard and a recall from end users.

Identify the product by its number

The two listed products are the Flymo SimpliTrim 230 AC Trimmer, item 9708376-01, and the SimpliTrim 230 Plus AC Trimmer, item 9708377-01. Flymo says the item number appears on the rating label on the bottom of the handle. Its recall FAQ also says that 18V battery trimmers are outside this particular recall. A similar series name or orange-and-black appearance is therefore a poor substitute for checking the actual number. If a label cannot be read, the seller or manufacturer should verify the product rather than inventing a batch boundary.

Separate the blank field from the stated hazard

According to OPSS, the spool cover on affected units may break and be ejected at high speed during operation, creating a risk of physical injury to the operator and bystanders. The notice says the products do not meet the Supply of Machinery Regulations 2008 and records a recall from end users as the corrective action. “Not provided” is a missing risk classification on the page; the hazard and corrective measure are present. Readers should neither treat the missing classification as reassurance nor replace it with an unsupported “serious” rating or an estimated incident rate.

This distinction also matters to distributors. A database that filters notices only by a high-risk classification could miss a recall with no published level. A more reliable reading records four separate fields: exact item numbers, described failure mode, corrective measure, and the risk-level field as published. This is an editorial workflow suggestion based on the notice, not an additional OPSS legal requirement.

What the published recall asks owners to do

OPSS advises owners to stop using the trimmer, make sure it is unplugged, and return it to the retailer for a refund or contact Flymo to arrange collection and refund. Flymo adds that prior trouble-free use does not make continued use acceptable. It offers free collection and a full refund after the affected product is returned under the applicable process; its current recall remedy is return and refund, not self-repair or a promised replacement. A retailer reviewing stock or prior sales can use the two item numbers to find potentially affected units and direct customers to the official instructions.

This article addresses only the two products in UK recall 2610-0026. An item outside those numbers is outside this notice as described; that alone does not prove that every other product is safe.
